Music Submissions

You’re most likely seeing this because you sent us music you hope to hear on NGEN Radio. If you ended up on this page accidentally, feel free to check out what else is going on. We have some great events, fire shows and dope music you can listen to right now!

If you’re here on purpose, we want to be straight with you. It’s mathematically impossible to play every song sent our way. We can’t get through it all and still play all the other great music that you want to hear. We attempt to work through as many submissions as possible. If we think you’re a potential fit, we will do our best to connect with you. If not, we would love to give you some suggestions for next time!

How to Increase Your Odds of Getting on the Radio

  1. Are we the right fit for your music? NGEN Radio is all about Alt Pop and Hip-Hop. Faith-based music that bumps. In industry terms, NGEN is considered a Rhythmic outlet. Artists our audience loves include NF, Lecrae, KB, twenty one pilots, Tori Kelly, Andy Mineo and more. Essentially: Hip Hop that’s mass appeal, and Alt Pop styles that really thump. If your song doesn’t make sense next to these artists, then you may not be a good fit for the NGEN audience. (But that doesn’t mean you aren’t awesome!)
  1. Production quality: Our audience isn’t just the Christian music listener in Houston. We aren’t even competing with just the other top quality music stations in Houston. Thanks to the Internet, our competition is global. Quality is key. 90% of the songs sent to us have great, talented people (like you!) performing them. But the talent gets diminished when surrounded by production that sounds less than professional. There’s a reason the biggest names in music spend GIANT chunks of cash on the right producers and tools. Great production will help you rise above the pack; anything less risks you not standing out. We don’t play music that lacks excellent production.
  1. If NGEN chooses to add your song to rotation, we will need a high quality .wav file. MP3s and links are great for screening (we love and prefer them for that), but after going through our audio chain, MP3s, M4A (iTunes files), etc. can get too compressed to sound good when coming out on the other side, into a listener’s car radio, earbuds, etc. We may also request an instrumental and a capella for radio edit and mix show use. Don’t worry about the .wav file unless we ask for it. Just wanted to let you know it might be needed. If it helps, this article goes in depth about why NGEN tries to avoid anything other than .wav files:  http://www.audioanimals.co.uk/news/why-wav-is-better-than-mp3
  1. Know this: if your song doesn’t get on NGEN, that does not mean you aren’t talented and that we don’t love your music. It simply means it doesn’t fit, or the timing is wrong. We’re still cheering for you and hoping God uses you for His kingdom. Radio spins can be a great tool for some artists, but not every artist is cut out for radio, or for the NGEN style of radio. Think of radio this way: it might not be your best first step; radio is the final destination for the absolute best music around.
  1. No promises, sorry. There are weeks where NGEN receives no less than 100 songs. Our small team only has so many ears and so much time. Due to the high volume of music we receive, we can’t promise prompt reviews, replies, or on-air spins. If we want to play your song, or if we have questions, you’ll hear from us. If you don’t, we love you and we’re praying for you!
